Life in Costa Rica has had its fair share of negatives over the past few months, but I’ve had a recent upturn. And I’m going to relish it. And brag about it. So don’t hate!
Upgrade!
That’s right – the stars aligned and I surprisingly got upgraded to first class on my most recent flight from Costa Rica to Newark. You can tell from my excitement that I was obviously a first class virgin (<– lol). Well, Delta popped that cherry and I now present you with a view from my first class window. Soak it up, this is what it looks like:

This is like always having to run behind the herd, staring at ass, until one day you sprint ahead for a brief second and look back to see a face.
Winning!
Reading travel blogs is fun, but you know what makes it even more fun? Winning stuff! I recently won a $50 spa gift certificate on Budget Travel Adventures, which is awesome, because I never win things.
…that’s a lie. I won something else from another travel blog several months ago. An $80 Amazon gift card from Inspiring Travelers. How awesome is that?! A double lie. I also won ExOfficio underwear from Ordinary Traveler! Reading travel blogs pays in more ways than entertainment and useful information ![]()
Big thanks to Jeremy, Andrea, John, Scott, Christy, and Delta for turning my frown upside down and making me a winner!
It’s nice to celebrate the positives in life, no matter how big or small they might be. e.g. the weather – I celebrate the weather in Costa Rica almost every single day and am grateful to be here in a climate that supports an open-air house.
What are you celebrating today? Have you won anything lately? Or maybe you discovered an awesome new beer? Go ahead and share your victories, big or small, in the comments below ![]()
Wo0t!

Glad I could help you be a winner! Now you can use it to relax and enjoy a nice spa or massage or whatever you choose to do!
While there is great incentive in reading travel blogs to win stuff, hopefully the best benefit of all as a travel blogger is the satisfaction of helping others!

Helping others and having fun with life! Winning stuff is a pleasant unexpected side effect
Such a lovely positive post, Erin.
I haven’t won anything yet but I have heaps of stuff to be happy about: I started my new job with a fabulous airline which I love and doesn’t feel like work; I bought myself a new laptop last weekend which I’m currently having a love affair with; and it’s 2 months and 3 weeks until I head over to Mexico and my adventure begins! Woot woot for positivity!

You do have a lot to celebrate – cheers!
Gorgeous view! I have only traveled first class a few times myself, but when I can it’s a luxury I always enjoy. Makes those seats in coach seem *so* much smaller, doesn’t it?

I bet! I hope I get upgraded again soon
Wow! It sounds to me like you win things a lot lately.
I never win anything either and I won a really cool trip to San Antonio on a blog! But that is it. Still waiting for my second win.

How did you get upgraded? Tell me your secret. I MUST KNOW…

What I did:
1. Spoke Spanish to the native Spanish speaking ticket lady.
2. Looked like I needed an upgrade?
Seriously, I don’t know. Must be all the miles I’ve accumulated are finally beating everyone else’s.
